Procedures
At Southview Dermatology, our physicians specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the skin, hair and nails. The field of dermatology encompasses such conditions as rashes, warts, acne, etc. as well as surgery for skin cancer, cysts and moles. In addition, cosmetic chemical peel treatment of scars and wrinkles, spider vein injections and skin care counseling are in the realm of dermatology. Below are a few common procedures and products that we offer. Please contact us with any questions.
Botox
Botox is a simple, non-surgical procedure that smoothes the deep, persistent lines between your brows, crow's feet, and forehead lines. Tiny injections relax the muscles that cause those lines to form and keep them relaxed for up to four months.
Restylane
Restylane is a safe and natural cosmetic dermal filler that restores volume and fullness to the skin to correct moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial folds.
Cosmoplast/Cosmoderm Collagen Injections
CosmoDerm and CosmoPlast are collagen dermal (skin) fillers made from human collagen and injected just below the skin's surface to smooth wrinkles, fill in deep furrows and folds and restore the lip border. CosmoDerm can fill in the worry lines on your forehead and the frown lines between your eyebrows. CosmoPlast will add definition to your lip border and fill in those annoying vertical lip lines.
Laser Hair Removal
Through a process called Selective Photothermolysis, laser light is passed through the skin and is absorbed by pigment in the hair follicle. The heat generated by the laser light both injures the follicle and inhibits future growth, while leaving the skin unharmed.
We now offer laser treatments to remove unwanted facial and body hair for men and women. The Lyra laser is one of the newest and best technologies available for permanent hair reduction. It offers outstanding results for the widest range of skin types. Our registered nurse performs treatments every few weeks until the desired hair reduction is achieved.
Lyra laser is one of the best treatments available for permanent hair reduction. It is the first FDA approved for all skin types.
- Improved Appearance Of Leg Veins
While we have performed effective treatments for facial veins for years, our Lyra laser offers a superior solution for veins in the legs. Leg skin is thicker than facial skin, so the longer wave length of the Lyra targets the leg vessels more specifically. Using a hand-held device, the laser beam penetrates the targeted vessel; a cooling tip provides additional safety and comfort during the treatment. Some of the vessels disappear immediately; others lighten in appearance immediately after the procedure, and continue to fade over the next several weeks. Unlike other lasers, the Lyra provides leg vein improvement for all skin types including dark and tanned skin.
- Non-ablative Laser Resurfacing and Wrinkle Reduction
Our practice is on the forefront of this exciting new application. The Lyra laser produces a beam of light, that when touched to the skin, stimulates the body to produce its own collagen causing the body to fill in its own wrinkles naturally. The latest research shows that the Lyra, when used in concert with a shorter wavelength laser, may offer an effective way to rejuvenate fine facial lines with almost no downtime. Thus we are now offering treatments with the Lyra and a shorter wavelength laser on the same day, once a month, for three months. These treatments are used to reduce "crow's feet" around the eyes as well as fine line around the mouth and on the forehead and cheeks. Each procedure takes about 20 minutes. Recovery time and discomfort with this new technology are much less than with older methods that burn the skin to resurface it.
- Skin Care Analysis
We have selected products to provide benefits for patients with a wide range of different skin types. These products are physician-exclusive and include an excellent cleanser, moisturizers that hydrate and protect the skin from sun damage, and creams that resurface the skin and stimulate the production of collagen. Our registered nurse can customize a daily skin care program based on your needs that can help reduce blemishes, even your skin tone, protect your skin against further damage, and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
Chemical Peels
A chemical peel exfoliates the top layers of dull skin cells to reveal the softer healthier skin. Chemical peels treat a variety of skin conditions such as environmentally damaged and acne prone skin. A series of peels can improve the tone & texture of sun damaged skin, age spots and fine lines. Types of peels include Beta Lift Peels, TCA Medium and Deep Peels, Glycolic Acid Peels and Combination Peels.
Sclerotherapy
Sclerotherapy can be used to treat both varicose and spider veins. A tiny needle is used to inject the veins with a medication that irritates the lining of the vein. In response, the veins collapse and are reabsorbed. The surface veins are no longer visible. Sclerotherapy relieves symptoms due to varicose and spider veins in most patients. With this procedure, veins can be dealt with at an early stage, helping to prevent further complications.
Laser Removal of Benign Pigmented and Vascular Lesions
Vascular lesions are usually due to the abnormal widening of small blood vessels, known as capillaries. Dilated Capillaries (often called broken capillaries, broken veins or broken blood vessels ) are commonly recognized on the cheeks, nose and legs as threadlike red or pink lines that are smaller than spider veins. Laser is the safest and most effective technique to remove dilated capillaries. In addition, other commonly occurring vascular lesions can also be treated with the laser.
A dilated capillary merely pools blood within its channel. It is usually functionless. By the time dilated capillaries have appeared, normal capillaries in the same vicinity have taken over their function. The removal of dilated capillaries or other vascular lesions does not adversely affect the local circulation and is considered safe.
Laser Removal of Facial & Leg Veins
Facial veins are mostly caused by genetics and often made worse by too much sun. Using advanced lasers, a fiberoptic beam is directed at the facial veins. The vessels absorb the energy and most close off immediately.
We can also help your legs look and feel better, whatever the condition of your leg veins. Many patients need only a couple of laser treatments to remove unsightly spider veins. The veins absorb the energy and close off. Usually, your leg veins require 2 treatments for optimum clearance.

Solutions for Problem Skin
Control of acne is an ongoing process. All acne treatments work by preventing new acne. No matter what special treatments are used, you must continue proper skin care until the tendency to have acne has passed. There is no instant or permanent cure for acne, but it is controllable, and proper treatment may prevent scars. Diet, sunlight, and cosmetics can all have an impact on the severity of acne. Treating acne varies depending on skin type however treatments can range from, non-prescription acne lotion and cream for milder cases to topical creams, gels or lotions with Vitamin A for more severe cases.
